Inspiration on the refrigerator

This magazine clipping has been stuck to our refrigerator for a couple years. Maybe longer. It's faded.

It has been presented to me many times with statements like, "This is my dream kitchen..." and "I love that it is so warm..." and of course heard on more than one occasion, "I WANT THAT!"

Down the road later this picture is relocated to the front of the kitchen binder. This is the project. Flush inset cabinets (very custom), cement counter tops and farmhouse sink (custom), professional range and built in hood (of course, custom). I can do it, no problem, but is that what she really wants????

Now when looking at the picture I hear, "There are hardwood floors in the picture..." and "That's what they did..." and my favorite, "It's not in the picture. I don't know why you even ask."

Can I be permitted to be permitted

We have some differences on how to get things done. As I see it I am moving the gas line, moving a window and re-framing a section of wall, and adding 6-8 new circuits to the panel not to mention all the other stuff in a kitchen. The law says I need to be permitted. My wife who once told me she was raised in a family that believes you should follow the law of the land thinks otherwise. For some reason building code is different than penal code.

Thats ok. Having someone check off on your work isn't so bad. I have seen licensed contractors that have been building much longer than I have fail inspections. Call it piece of mind or government control it doesn't really matter building code makes sense at least 9 times out of 10. As for taxes I am not adding any square footage to the house so any increase will be negligible.

I have a permit.
